HONGKONG'S Willy Chan Lee was beaten 6-2, 6-3 by Thailand's Suvimol Duangchan in the semi-finals of the US$10,000 Brunei Satellite yesterday.

After a sapping three-set victory over South Korean Kim Soo-mi in the quarter-finals, Chan, 15, was unable to keep up with her more senior opponent's power and stamina.

But her performance in only her second professional tournament has put Chan on the threshold of making her debut on the women's world computer rankings.

She also reached the semi-finals of a US$10,000 Satellite in Thailand last November and needs to take part in one more similar event to earn her ranking.

Her coach, Mark Bailey, hopes Chan can compete in the US$10,000 event in Bandung, Indonesia starting on February 14.

Chan was overpowered in the first set, but made an encouraging start to the second set, going 3-1 up, before the 426th-ranked Duangchan regained the advantage.
