PolyU in pact on nursing

Polytechnic University has formed a pact with 21 colleges and universities on the mainland and in Taiwan and Macau to promote nursing education. The Chinese Consortium for Higher Nursing Education will foster academic exchanges, help compile a Chinese-English nursing dictionary and set up a website to share information on teaching and learning.

Honorary degrees awarded

Three entrepreneurs and a leading designer have been awarded honorary degrees by Polytechnic University. Dr Kenneth Fang Hung, chairman of Fang Brothers Knitting and Dr Lui Che-woo chairman of K Wah Group are Doctors of Business Administration. Kan Tai-keung, Dean of Shantou University's Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, was named a Doctor of Design and Barry Lam, chairman officer of Quanta Computer, gained the title Doctor of Technology.

HKEdcity helps teachers, principals

Hong Kong Education City Limited (HKEdcity) is to focus on support for teachers and principals, according to chief executive Jacqueline Cheng Ming-fung. A TV channel showing videos of experienced teachers at work would be launched next year with the clips also being available online. HKEdcity would also launch a web forum for principals.

Sex education recommended

Liberal studies presented an excellent opportunity to promote sex education, according to the chairwoman of the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong. At the association's annual general meeting this week, Dr Pamela Leung said sex education should play an integral role in helping people define their personality.

Intel seeks science stars

Intel is hunting for budding science boffins. The computer giant is looking for local schools to enter science projects for next year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in the US in May. It is the largest science competition for secondary school students, involving 1,500 students from 45 countries.

Money matters for youth

Hong Kong-based English language author Nury Vittachi's new book instils money concepts in children aged between eight and 12. May Moon and the Secrets of the CPAs, commissioned by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, is now on sale in bookstores and through Paddyfield.com.
