A chilling thriller

John Millen

Murkmere is a tight part-historical, part-supernatural thriller with an excellent sense of time and place.

It follows the classic formula of an innocent, simple young girl being thrown into the mysterious secrets of a weird family.

The family lives in an old, dark mansion with more shady corridors and dark corners than a chamber of horrors.

Why is young Aggie chosen to act as the companion to the Master of Murkmere's teenage ward? He could have picked any one of the village girls. Why her?

Poor Aggie has to face the sinister servants of Murkmere Hall as well as the antagonism of the girl she is supposed to befriend.

And behind the heavy wooden doors that creak every time they are opened, there is the crippled Master of Murkmere who has more skeletons in his cupboard than the keeper of a

bone yard.

If you are in the mood for a believable and shivery read, then this is a book to put on your list.
