Practise your writing and send in your reviews

School-based assessment is a good system and should be implemented properly. For example, students are required to write book and movie reviews during English lessons. These reports will count towards their HKCEE marks in the subject.

Many teachers say this new system will increase their burden, and students complain that they will have less time to sleep since they will need to read a lot of books and watch movies.

I hope the Education and Manpower Bureau will listen to the opinions of both teachers and students before introducing school-based assessment.

If this system is given adequate time to develop, I think it will be good for teenagers.

Thanks for your letter, Catherine. Learning to write a good review is a real skill: you must include both factual information as well as your own opinion.

One of the best ways to hone your review writing skills is by reading reviews and noticing how the writers express their view.

Thursday is the day for reviews in Young Post. We publish CD and DVD reviews (Page 4), book reviews (Page 5) and film reviews (Page 9).

If you would like to have your review published in Young Post, please send it to [email protected]. It could be on a book, DVD or CD and should be at least 250 words long and include your name and school.
