Doctors at Queen Elizabeth Hospital will carry out tests on a toddler admitted to the hospital with symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection. He will be tested for the influenza virus, including bird flu, and also for Sars.

Hospital sources said the 20-month-old boy was initially sent by his family to St Teresa Hospital in Kowloon City suffering from cough and a fever after returning from a mainland trip over the Lunar New Year holiday. He was transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday afternoon.

His case was reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
