Bovis succeeds in a tough construction market

INTERNATIONAL RETAIL and residential property group Bovis Lend Lease won the Business Excellence Award in the Large Company category at last night's AustCham Business Awards.

'Bovis Lend Lease is very proud that it has been able to so successfully grow its business in Greater China,' said Frank Lorenzetto, managing director for Greater China, Bovis Lend Lease Projects (Shanghai).

'This competition has provided recognition to all of our people in Greater China and acknowledges their efforts and contributions in building our successful business,' he said. The company has a global reach that is coupled with world-class local capability, which is delivered by employees that collaborate with stakeholders and work with integrity.

It operates in various markets, where its expertise adds value, which create economic returns for its shareholders. It has a well-established track record in Australia, Britain and the United States.

It also operates in other key markets in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.

'Bovis Lend Lease has been able to build its business in Greater China by applying its experience, expertise and can-do attitude to one of the largest and toughest construction markets in the world,' Mr Lorenzetto said.

'Major achievements include successfully implementing our Incident and Injury Free safety initiative, where we have been able to make a tangible difference to the safety and well-being of all workers on our project.

'We are recognised as providing the world's best practice in safety. Successfully delivering our projects in terms of quality, time and cost has resulted in more than 50 per cent of our workload coming from repeat clients.'

The company is committed to being incident and injury free wherever it has a presence, and this philosophy reaches every part of its operations and extends to clients, suppliers, subcontractors and other stakeholders.

Bovis Lend Lease was established in Greater China in 1993. It has its regional head office in Shanghai and has additional offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei. The company provides construction, project management and design engineering services throughout Greater China. It has more than 250 professional staff including construction managers, designers, engineers and project managers.

The company's business has grown steadily in recent years, but the best seems yet to come. It is expecting significant growth in the coming years.

It has 17 projects under way in Greater China, where 'Australian companies have earned a reputation of providing excellent service', Mr Lorenzetto said.

Bovis Lend Lease began operations in the 1950s building housing for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. The company grew consistently until 1999, when it acquired Britain's Bovis, which now has global operations employing more than 8,000 employees in 80 offices spread across 40 countries.

Market sectors include commercial, communications, industrial, residential and retail.

It has been involved in numerous landmark projects such as Canary Wharf in London, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Sears Tower in Chicago and the Sydney Opera House.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian property giant Lend Lease Corporation.
