Thick smog kicks out 'Apec blue', November 20

20 Nov 2014

Yellow-grey smog covered the skies again after the APEC summit in Beijing as factories resumed production and traffic controls ended. Beijing issued its first severe air pollution alert on Wednesday when the Air quality Index reading reached 316 -- meaning the air quality was "heavily polluted". The China National Environmental Monitoring Centre said the smog would last until Thursday afternoon, affecting central Beijing, Tianjin, southern Hebei and much of Henan Province.
