Hurricane Sandy is a late-season tropical cyclone formed near Jamaica on October 24, 2012. After wreaking havoc and killing 66 people across the Caribbean and Cuba, the "superstorm" headed towards the northeastern coast of the United States. Many US statesdeclared a state of emergency, closed down down public transportation and evacuated people in preparation for what could possibly be the biggest storm ever to hit the US in its history, affecting some 50 million North Americans.
