These penguins breed in coastal Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands. They are the most numerous of the Spheniscus penguins. Their nearest relatives are the African, the Humboldt and the Galápagos Penguins. They were named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who spotted them in 1520. They are ‪Magellanic Penguin‬.
