New York charity struggles to collect winter coats for needy, December 17

17 Dec 2013

The annual New York Cares coat drive is in its 25th year and is hoping to collect 110,000 new or gently used coats. Once collected and sorted, the coats are delivered to area schools, hospitals, homeless shelters and other locations for distribution to those in need. People wishing to donate coats and jackets can go to the New York Cares website to locate one of hundreds of drop-off points. However, the drive has fallen short on donations so far this year by 35 per cent, the charity's executive director said. All photos from AFP.
