The origin of Huangyuan row lantern can be traced back to the large and well-lit shop signposts along the street of Huangyuan, Qinghai in the early 18th century in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The traditional handicraft is kept alive by local artisans, knowledge of which is considered an intangible heritage. All photos by Xinhua
