Depths of despair, January 22

22 Jan 2014

Still trying to recover barely a year after the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Bopha, which left 2,000 dead, Mindanao’s Compostela Valley is being battered by unseasonal floods that have inundated homes and killed about 40 people. Hundreds of survivors of the recent Super Typhoon Haiyan evacuated to the area are among those affected. About 500,000 people have been displaced in 10 provinces.
