Escape for love: Two Russian gays tie the knot in Argentina, February 26

26 Feb 2014

A Russian gay couple, Alex Emereev and Dmitry Zautsey, exchanged their vows in Argentina yesterday, more than 13,000 kilometres away from their homeland, where homophobia is rampant and anti-gay laws are in force. Argentina is different: 7,000 same-sex couples have married there since December 2009. “We want this to be a legal union,” the newlywed Eremeev said, adding that they are now seeking asylum abroad.
