The basic conditions at the classrooms and dormitories of Huaxia Liangste's massage training centres in Henan seem very far away from its luxurious spas and massage stores of Beijing. Masseuses in China sometimes face prejudice as many people still associate the occupation with the sex industry, especially in small cities where the culture can be traditional and close-minded. However, young women like Wang Feng are attracted to the career as salaries can reach around 10,000 yuan per month, around four or five times the salary they could expect to earn in a small town.
