New-town protesters at Legco complex, Jun 13

13 Jun 2014

The Legislative Council postponed the vote on a funding request for the development of the northeastern New Territories as protesters attempted to break into the building. Pepper spray was used several times as protesters tried to open heavily guarded gates. Some parts of the Legco building's walls were damaged. This is the first time a meeting has been suspended due to security concerns since the Legislative Council moved to the new builidng in Tamar in 2011.
