On May 6, a Philippine maritime police patrol boat inspected a Chinese fishing vessel in the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea and found a record number of live and dead endangered sea turtles. Nine of the eleven crew members, who say they were in Chinese waters, are scheduled to stand trial in a Philippine court on Tuesday, facing prison sentences of up to 20 years.
