High achievers, June 24

Graduation day is a time for unbridled joy and high hopes. But mainland students who put their university days behind them this month could soon be brought crashing down to earth. About 7.27 million graduated this year, 280,000 more than last year, which was considered the hardest year to find a job since the global economic downturn in 2008. The number has doubled in the past 10 years, when the government started encouraging universities to boost enrolments. Many parents still regard higher education as the only road to success for their children. Before their bubble is burst, photographers from Reuters, EPA and Xinhua captured a high point in their young lives.
