People's Liberation Army shows off its firepower in exercise in northeast

6 Nov 2014

The People's Liberation Army puts on a display of might during a live-fire drill in China's northeast in its largest exercise of the year. The drill, codenamed "Joint Action-2014E", involved 20,000 troops from the Shenyang military command, including infantry, artillery, tank and other troops from the army, as well as the air force, armed police, militia and reserves. The aim was to test the ability of forces to work together, a vital requirement in modern warfare. And it was successful in that it exposed operational faults, the PLA Daily said, one being the failure of the air force to coordinate smoothly with land air defences.
