Brothers who became faces of China

23 Jul 2015

For decades, 86-year-old Huang Quande and his 76-year-old brother Yuechuang have eked out a living fishing with their cormorants on the Li River in Quanxi. But now they have another way to support the four generations of family who rely on them. With their weathered faces and long whiskers as well as their traditional trade in one of China’s most scenic areas, they have become models for photographers, both professional and amateur, looking for that “classic” Chinese image. One such photo (held bottom left by Yuechuang) that was taken by Australian Neville Jones, who won a prize for it in the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards. Photographers from ChinaFotoPress were among those to visit the brothers.
