Party time, November 10

10 Nov 2015

The Lusheng Festival is the highlight of the year for China's Miao ethnic group. Crowds, often dressed in traditional costumes and headdresses, meet to celebrate their cultural roots. The massive celebrations also attract many tourists. These images, by Xinhua and Reuters photographers, capture the atmosphere in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Guizhou province. The two-day festival, which coincides with the Miao new year, involves a broad spectrum of activities reflecting their culture including singing, dancing, folk ceremonies and horse fighting. And, of course, there are plenty of opportunities to play the lusheng, a reed-pipe wind instrument.
