Ranging far and wide, March 2

2 Mar 2015

Mainland tourists made five million trips overseas during the recent Lunar New Year holiday, the first time that outbound tourists had outnumbered those travelling at home. Increased wealth and leisure time plus efforts by many countries to pull in more visitors with favourable visa policies and promotions have contributed to the surge in the number of Chinese visiting foreign climes. While the majority still make shopping their top priority, these photos from AFP, Xinhua, ChinaFotoPress and Reuters show just how varied their activities are, from weddings on Greek islands, setting foot on Antarctica and sleigh rides in Lapland to African safaris, shooting practice in the Philippines and even plastic surgery in South Korea.
