NTK Academic Group to host IB top scorers forum in celebration of record-breaking achievement
Students at NTK Academic Group, Hong Kong’s leading educational services provider, celebrated outstanding achievement in the 2017 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
8 students who had studied at NTK achieved the maximum 45 points. 12 NTK students scored 44 and 40 students attained a score of 42 or higher. Many students also scored 7 in English, Mathematics and Science subjects. NTK students scored on average 39.9, surpassing the Hong Kong average IB score of 35.94.
Top scorers will be sharing their experience at an IB forum hosted by NTK Academic Group. There will also be an information session presented by NTK’s IB teachers. The event will be held on 12 August, 2017 (Sat). Details can be found at this link.
Angela Stanton is one of NTK’s top students who achieved 45 points and was awarded the IB Bilingual Diploma. An aspiring mathematician, Angela is now looking forward to reading Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, following the path of her math teacher at NTK. “Prior to coming to NTK, I had only done three units in Further Mathematics and my teacher helped me learn new concepts efficiently and in a relaxed way. There was no way I could have scored a 7 without his help. Coincidentally, this teacher got both his Master’s and PhD from Cambridge, and he taught me a lot of sophisticated math that I didn’t know before coming here.”
Commenting on how NTK had helped her in her studies, Angela said, “I was terrible at Chinese literature and scored only 4 points in a mock paper. I studied with three Chinese teachers at NTK, focusing on different papers. One teacher helped me with my written assignment, which was essential for getting a 7 in this subject. The teachers also analyzed sample essays with me and gave useful feedback.”
Angela’s advice to students is that everyone should study consistently. She recalls her utter disappointment after scoring only 29 points in the six subjects she took for her mock exams in March. To turn things around, she admitted to spending nearly 12 hours a day at NTK for three weeks doing revisions. She was particularly impressed with NTK’s drilling courses, which are a combination of lectures and intensive practice.
Jamie Lai and Marcus Lai are two other high achievers, who both scored 44 points. They agreed that NTK’s tutors had helped them tremendously in their IB study. Jamie, who will be pursuing a law degree at Cambridge, expressed appreciation for her tutor. “He gave me personalized follow-up guidance on my essay assignment and that significantly improved my IB performance.”
Earning 7 points in all of his IB subjects, Marcus has already received offers from two prestigious universities in Hong Kong to study medicine. He says, “Studying at NTK was a great experience. My Chinese and Economics grades weren’t good initially. The teachers I had at NTK always gave detailed comments and feedback on my performance, pointing out my weaknesses and helped me improve in these areas, especially Economics. I really thank them for their patience.” Marcus had also struggled with English literature and succeeded in achieving a perfect score by having continuous practice in reading and writing.
In a congratulatory message to the class of 2017, NTK’s Founder and Managing Director Mr. T. K. Ng, said, “For two decades, NTK has proudly offered students a pathway to the world’s top schools and universities. Our students’ remarkable results are a testament to the hard work, perseverance and diligence they have shown over the years. I hope that as they embark on their future studies, they will develop the mindset and sensibilities that prepare them to contribute positively towards society.”
