It's also the glass that counts when you open that bottle of fine wine

Ever thought mineral water would taste different if poured in different glasses? If you've booked Riedel's glass tasting for Monday, chances are you'll savour water like never before.

Georg Josef Riedel, the tenth generation glassmaker of the wine glass and decanter producer Riedel Crystal will fly in from Austria especially for a glass appreciation class at the JW Marriott hotel in Admiralty. The master craftsman will demonstrate how a glass can bring out or ruin the flavour of its contents by serving the same mineral water and wines in different glasses. There will also be a wine and chocolate pairing tasting.

Suresh Kanji, general manager for Town House, sole distributors for Riedel in Hong Kong and Macau, held a preview glass tasting last Thursday in the Riedel Room at the JW Marriott. He said using the right glass brings out the full potential when you open a bottle of wine.

Tickets for Monday's event cost HK$765 but are sold out, though a waiting list is still open at townhouse.com.hk.

The brand has organised a few glass tasting sessions locally. It sponsored the sold-out wine tasting Rendezvous with Fine Wine last night at the Island Shangri-La ballroom, co-organised by the South China Morning Post, Kerry Wines and the Island Shangri-La.
