The city's theme parks are world-class: study

Ocean Park is still the top theme park in Hong Kong, according to a global theme park ranking.

The 2011 Theme Index: The Global Attractions Attendance Report by Themed Entertainment Association and Aecom ranked Hong Kong no 5 in Asia and no 12 in the world.

Hong Kong Disneyland is ranked 16th globally. It attracted 5.9 million visitors last year.

The report says although the mainland's economy grew slightly less in 2011 than the year before, it still accounts for the fastest-growing market in themed entertainment.

Asia is the best performer this year in the theme park industry, with an almost 10 per cent growth. This includes double-digit growth at many parks on the mainland, the attendance report said.

One outstanding performer is Ocean Park in Hong Kong.

It drew nearly 7 million visitors last year and is going even stronger this year after redevelopment.

The world's top three theme parks, based on attendance, are Disneylands in Florida, California and Tokyo, respectively.
