Building up a better team

Internal Control for Senior Managers and Directors HKMA

How managers can bring about cultural change in organisations in the shape of better ethics is one of the hottest topics in the global economy in the wake of the financial crisis.

The Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) is offering the Internal Control for Senior Managers and Directors course to help senior management better understand how to build and manage a capable team to thrive in tomorrow's business world.

Jean-Yves LeCorre, a trainer on the course, says board of directors, audit committees, finance directors, controllers, internal auditors, external auditors and regulators can all benefit from the short programme.

'Because of the fast-changing corporate environment, new priorities have emerged on top of the agenda for board members and audit committees on internal control. We try to remain updated on this. The course takes into account bringing an international perspective to a more local context,' he says.

The course encourages students to carry out self-assessments of their knowledge and skills and how they can play active and crucial roles concerning their internal controls and responsibilities. The course also provides self-assessment tools. 'Class sizes range from about four to 10 because we want students to interact more and reflect on what they have learned,' says LeCorre.

There are no specific prerequisites for the course, which is suitable for executives who want to learn about the responsibilities of internal control and satisfy compliance requirements.

The course is due to start on July 4, and applications are welcome before that date so long as there are openings.
