Airport quizzed on green report

The government wants the Airport Authority to give it more information on how the third runway at Hong Kong International Airport will affect the ecology.

The authority handed in a report on May 29 which showed how big the project would be and how it might affect the environment. But some green groups say important information is missing and some are out of date.

They say the report was not complete because it did not take into account the noise the runway would make in Tuen Mun and Ma Wan, and the shrinking population of white dolphins.

They said the report was also not clear enough about air pollution.

Friends of the Earth, a green group, hopes the Environmental Protection Department will provide the missing data.

An authority spokesman said the requested information would be provided as soon as possible.
