Seemed like a century as jockey completes nine-year wait for ton

After Jacky Tong Chi-kit rode his long-awaited 100th career winner yesterday one wag quipped 'that was the slowest century since Geoffrey Boycott opened the batting for England.' Tong rode his first winner for the late Ivan Allan in February 2003 and his progress towards three figures had been slowed further by injury - but a recent flurry of victories brought up his ton. The win of much-maligned sprinter Dane Patrol was the 29-year-old's fourth success in the last four weeks, and eighth for the season. 'I fractured my leg last season and was out for a few months,' Tong said. 'I wasn't completely fit for the first few months of this season, but I feel like I am better now.'
