Alexia Yukon Gold Julienne Fries with Sea Salt
Cooked in 20 minutes, these thin golden batons were slightly blotchy - pale in spots, almost black in others. Some still had their skins on, but this didn't add much to the flavour. The texture was inconsistent - while some came out crisp, some were soggy and others were dry.

Aunt Bessie's Homestyle Chips
Thick and chunky, these lightly battered chips were a lovely golden brown and had a pleasant crunchy bite. Inside, however, they were heavy and almost gummy in texture. The paprika extract colouring gave them a disconcertingly yellow colour. These chips had no discernible flavour to speak of.

McCain Straight Cut Home Chips
These chunky chips came out of the oven a beautiful shade of golden brown. Fairly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, texture-wise, they ticked all the right boxes. They also stayed hot for quite a long time. Unfortunately, they were barely palatable and quite greasy. A disappointment, considering how much they cost.

Cavendish From the Farm Homestyle Potato Strips
These thin fries need 10 minutes to cook, about half the time of the others tested. Some of the fries still have their skins attached, and there is a slightly starchy sweetness to them. While the chips were crunchy in parts, they seemed dry, almost biscuit-like, but they're not a bad choice for the price.

Kai Bo Straight French Fries
These long, flat fries are pre-packed by the supermarket. There was no indication of how to cook them, so when baking, constant monitoring was necessary. After being baked at 230 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes they became golden brown on the outside, but not at all crispy; the longer ones were soggy.
