Another chapter in the 'misunderstood' C.Y. story

Another week, another attempt at the soft-sell. After three rounds of mayhem-inducing community visits, the heavyweights in Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's team descended on the Book Fair yesterday to regale audiences with lively anecdotes about their 'misunderstood' boss while the undersecretary for home affairs told children's stories.

Among the many book launches and events at the fair, the press pack focused its attention on Executive Council members Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun and Barry Cheung Chun-yuen, who appeared at the launch of Zero-Distance Contact with C.Y., a Chinese-language book written by 40 members of Leung's election team.

Leung's project officer, Chen Ran, and his PR officer, Cathy Hung Yee-man, also contributed to the book.

Law served as Leung's campaign-office chief and she said the experience 'was a roller coaster. Sometimes the popularity rating was high, sometimes it could plunge by 10 points. It will be a good reference for universal suffrage in 2017'.

She also said she hoped the book would give readers a true picture about who Leung really was.

Former campaign-team member Kaizer Lau Ping-cheung told stories about the Leung he knew. 'He seldom thanks you for what you do ... yet he is also a very caring person.'

Florence Hui Hiu-fai, the undersecretary for home affairs once tipped as Leung's choice as culture minister, was a guest at the fair's 'storytelling by celebrities' sessions. She told a group of children a story, and helped them recite an excerpt from the Chinese classics in the 30-minute session. She said it was the second time she had been invited to the fair to tell stories.
