Certification Course for Kindergarten Principals
The Education Bureau's decision to improve the standard of early childhood education has seen a boom in demand for professional training.
The nine-month, part-time certification course for kindergarten principals offered by the School of Continuing Education at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU-SCE) aims to equip programme participants with crucial leadership skills for the post.
The course consists of four core modules and one elective module, totalling 90 contact hours of instruction. Students must also write a 30-hour self-study term paper on a topic of their choice related to school work, supplemented by three half-hour academic consultation sessions.
'Upon successful completion of the course, kindergarten principals will have strengthened the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for their professional development,' says Dr Vincent Wong, a lecturer at HKBU-SCE.
The programme has attracted a very competitive profile of students, including chief kindergarten co-ordinators from various school-sponsoring bodies, Education Bureau officers and professional practitioners in early-childhood education.
'Our students highly appreciate this course, which perfectly balances the breadth and depth between theoretical and professional knowledge,' says Wong.
Due to keen market demand, an English stream will be introduced this September. The application deadline has passed, but late submissions will be considered on a discretionary basis.
Applicants must be kindergarten principals holding or pursuing a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a certificate in the subject.
