TURNING the rules of fashion inside out comes naturally to veteran Hong Kong designer Walter Ma.
For his Transition-Early Spring 1995 collection he stretches the limits of standardised fashion rules with his witty deconstructed knits, cartoon-bright satins and stretch woollens.
Putting the familiar things together in a whole new way is the hallmark of Ma's style.
As usual, texture play is an important element in his collection.
Quilted satin is mixed with mohair on a motor-cycle jacket, crocheted pullovers are accented at the neck with 'furry' knit ruffs and a crinkle satin skirt gets a warm topping from a faux-fur wrap-around vest.
Evening-wear sends a similar mixed message with an asymmetrically hemmed long slip-dress with subtle patchwork play in various patterns and shades of black.
