THE tough and highly competitive Fiji Sevens will become part of the territory's build-up to next year's Hong Kong Sevens.
The March 14-15 Fiji Sevens in Suva has been pencilled in by national coach George Simpkin as part of his build-up to next year's Hong Kong Sevens and, looking further ahead, to the 1997 World Cup Sevens which the territory hosts.
Chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU), Dave Roberts, said that although Fiji had still not invited Hong Kong, the territory intended to go.
'We will be seeking an official invitation as we want to play in this tournament,' Roberts said.
The Fiji Rugby Union had invited Hong Kong in the past, but the territory turned down the offers.
'This time we feel that it will suit us to go down there,' Roberts said.
The territory will also send a team to the Sri Lanka Sevens to be played on October 7-8 in Colombo. According to Roberts, the side for this tournament is unlikely to include top players.
Other international sevens dates in the HKRFU calendar include the Taiwan Sevens on October 14-15.
