Sporting skills for the whole family

MORE than 1,000 people, young and old, went to Kowloon Park recently to enjoy a 'Fun Day' which kicked off this year's 'Come and Try Scheme'.

The Urban Council scheme, which will run until February next year, aims to promote five sports: cricket, shuttlecock, three-a-side basketball, gateball and gymnastics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Urban councillor Wen Choy-bon said that the has two purposes. 'Apart from promoting the council's 'Sport-for-all' concept, it is aimed at encouraging members of the public to try out new sports activities.

'The scheme was set up last year and attracted a good response. This year, we hope to arouse the interest of 5,000 persons of all ages.' The day featured performances, demonstrations and sessions where visitors could try their hand at the sports.

A total of 57 fun days and training courses will be held. For details, call 2309 1102.
