Follow this Boy for a gain

IRISH import Gainsborough's Boy hit some form towards the back end of last season and he may not be too far away from winning a race judging by his effort in the second event last night. Slowly into stride, Gainsborough's Boy looked to have little chance of doing anything at all in the 1,150-metre Class Three event - particularly as the short sprint is not his forte. The four-year-old flew home under Greg Childs to finish in the frame and distinct improvement can be expected.

He had better Irish form than his Hong Kong record shows and trainer Neville Begg, in his final season, may well now get the best out of him. Karaoke has been around for a while without overly distinguishing himself but he can be relied upon to show up in a suitable race. He was in the Class Six mile event - third on the card - last night and came from nowhere to grab fourth spot.

He is again at the type of dangerous mark where he could win without raising an eyebrow and close watch should be kept on his progress over the next few weeks.

best run since early last season when he won at big odds at Happy Valley. A repeat in the near future is far from impossible.
