Weltrend Semiconductor beats the challenges of the tech curve

Sam Lin, chairman and CEO

Boasting high-performance custom designs and state-of-the-art technologies, Weltrend Semiconductor stays at the forefront of trends. Being one of the leading integrated circuit (IC) design companies in Taiwan, its diversified portfolio includes the consumer, computer, industrial, health care, green energy and vehicle industries.

Weltrend's semiconductor business spans two decades and was the leading supplier of controller ICs for cathode ray tube monitors for 10 years. Its next-generation power management ICs for video game brands and consoles account for 60 per cent of the market share, while its switching power supply for personal computers holds 70 per cent. Major clients include international brands such as Samsung, Delta, Lite-On and other big global names.

"We keep up with the industry demands through market research and by continuously upgrading our system application technology," says Sam Lin, chairman and CEO.

Its partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the world's largest independent semiconductor foundry, demonstrates Weltrend's commitment to ensuring high-quality products, competitive pricing and quick delivery.

Weltrend has been co-operating with Asian car manufacturers in developing around-view monitoring, an onboard camera system that allows the driver to have a 360-degree view of the area surrounding a vehicle. With four high-resolution cameras, the images are processed and displayed on the navigation screen showing split-screen close-ups of the front, rear and side views. This is particularly helpful when shifting the car into reverse or squeezing in tight parking spaces.

Besides these products, Weltrend has been developing near field communication devices and uSD cards with encryption function for mobile payment.

Weltrend aims to strengthen its research and development and enhance technical co-operation with key industry players through complementary partnerships, focusing on Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and the mainland. "Our partners can provide value-added service to promote our products and help expand our export portfolio," says Ambrose Chen, sales division director.
