Joggers getting raw deal

I MUST express my discontent at the conditions of the men's changing room facilities in Victoria Park. The one I am referring to is located at the back of the tennis courts.

Not only is this facility filthy, but it smells unpleasant most of the time and more than half of the coin-operated lockers do not work. Recently, the showers were changed from a twin (hot and cold piping inlets) to a single-pipe system. This means that those using them have to endure cold water for showers.

Now that the temperatures are beginning to drop, such showers are uncomfortable and people run the risk of catching colds as a consequence.

From past experience, even if the hot water is turned on during the winter, the drawback of the one-pipe system means that the water will be too hot. In order to make it cooler, all the showers will have to be turned on to increase the water-flow and thereby decrease the water temperature to an acceptable degree. This is a waste of water.

I simply do not understand why the changing rooms are so badly managed.

I understand that sometimes the changing rooms are used by homeless people, which makes the task of cleaning it harder for staff. But the relevant government department must appreciate that the changing rooms are very important for joggers.

Tennis and squash players have their own changing rooms which have hot and cold showers. Why are the needs of joggers being overlooked? WONG PUI-MING Kowloon
