Yokohama drums up trade

THE Japanese port of Yokohama, as part of its efforts to attract more cargo and ships, has sent a sales mission to China.

Consisting of representatives from the city's Port and Harbour Bureau and other port-related organisations, the mission is visiting Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin.

China is a very important trade and shipping partner for Yokohama.

The volume of containerised exports moving to China through Yokohama last year rose 30.1 per cent over 1993.

Exports to Japan also registered an impressive 45.3 per cent increase.

In Shanghai, the Yokohama delegation plans to host a fifth anniversary function in commemoration of the friendship port relationship with the Chinese port.
