THE Hongkong Government has shown again it is a true champion of those bureaucratic sports ''passing the buck'' and procrastination (''US expertise to guide demolition of Walled City'' South China Morning Post , December 30).
Twenty residents of the Walled City, most of them old and unable to fend themselves, have been sleeping in the street for more than a year.
The City and New Territories Administration, supposedly in charge of the demolition and resettlement of the former residents, has responded to this unbearable situation by referring the problem to other government departments and claims neither responsibility nor interest in the subject.
Nobody in the Government takes the blame and a few old people, whose mistake was to live in the Walled City, continue to sleep in the street under cardboard boxes. Who is responsible? Will anyone in the Government reply? A. RODRIGUEZ Tai Hang
