Legislators will decide today at a House Committee meeting whether to adopt a new logo for the council after the handover.
The design by Hon Bing-wah, featuring a bauhinia and the name of the law-making body both in Chinese and English, has been recommended by a Legislative Council Commission.
It was chosen from contributions by five local graphic designers.
Andrew Wong Wang-fat, the commission chairman, hoped that members would express their support for the change.
The new design comes after works from winners of an open competition were dumped last year.
The House Committee decided none of the winning entries should be adopted because they were similar to the Chinese character for fighting.
Legislator Samuel Wong Ping-wai, a judge in the design contest, said the new logo was attractive.
'It is simple but good,' he said.
