Salesman in jet ski accident dies

A salesman injured in a jet ski accident off Sai Kung on Thursday died last night.

Tsoi Siu-chung, 20, had been on the back of the machine ridden by mainland colleague Lu Bilim, 22.

Lu was killed instantly when the jet ski crashed into the stern of a launch during a company outing. Tsoi, who suffered serious head injuries, died in Prince of Wales Hospital shortly after 10 pm.

Police warned yesterday that jet ski operators and riders would be prosecuted if they did not have a licence.

Senior marine officer Tsang Cheuk-yin said the owner was responsible for ensuring that untrained operators were not allowed to take charge of a jet ski.

Shipping regulations say owners and users of jet skis more than three metres long with engine power of more than three kilowatts must be 16 and holders of certificates as pleasure vessel masters, or face a $10,000 fine.

Marine officer Lau Ka-kui will investigate the deaths.
