Luxury land schemes to face strict controls

The use of land for high-class property development is to be strictly controlled in Guangdong.

The provincial state land department has ordered counties and townships to regulate the province's property market.

The directive was issued to curb state land bureaus, which grant development permits for the construction of high-class properties that most local people cannot afford. In other instances, land approved for various purposes has remained undeveloped in numerous counties and townships.

The order also specified that land allocated for property development should be kept to around 15 per cent - and must never exceed 18 per cent - of the total land use of the county or township.

'According to the principle, the provincial state land department will not grant any development permit to fresh applications to build high-class properties such as hotels, amusement complexes and golf courses,' the China News Service reported.
