Social workers have investigated two reports of children being fed hydrogen peroxide as preached by the cult, the Church of Zion.
In both cases, social workers visited the homes of sect followers. One case was dismissed after the child showed no signs of illness. The outcome of the other home visit was unknown last night.
In the first case, a father accused his mother-in-law of giving the chemical to his 18-month-old son. The grandmother, a Church of Zion member, denied the allegation.
'The boy was in good spirits and perfect health,' a Social Welfare Department spokesman said.
In the second case, the parents claimed they had only used the chemical externally on their three-year-old son to treat a skin complaint. Social workers were tipped off by a caller to their hotline.
The spokesman said: 'We have talked to the couple on the phone and they have denied feeding hydrogen peroxide to their son.'
