Man, 72, kills wife then takes own life
A retired man stabbed his wife to death then ended his own by jumping into a Tai Po river yesterday.
At about 2.30 am Tsang Shek, 72, rang his 35-year-old son to say he had murdered Ng Yuk-tei, 60.
Ng's body was found in the ground-floor living room of the couple's two-storey stone hut in Kam Shan village. A blood-stained fruit knife was found on a table.
Police found four notes from Tsang saying he could no longer tolerate Ng.
Assistant Tai Po district commander, Acting Superintendent Lam Man-sai, said at least two stab wounds were found on Ng's body.
About an hour later, an officer found a suicide note stuck on Tai Wo Bridge near the Assembly of God Hebron Secondary School. It said: 'Murder and suicide. Die together . . . short-term pain is better than everlasting pain.' Firemen found Tsang's body in Lam Tsuen River.
