Like many of the Hong Kong medical profession and patients, I too was shocked that the Matilda Hospital has replaced its chief executive, Dr David Henderson in favour of a banker.
Our family have been regular patients at the Matilda for some years and I cannot speak too highly of Dr Henderson.
On one occasion last year, Dr Henderson was standing in for the duty doctor (something a non-medical chief executive could not do) and he immediately admitted my baby.
Although we were under the care thereafter of a paediatrician at the Matilda, Dr Henderson visited us up to five times a day over our 10 rather traumatic days in hospital, often dropping in around midnight before he retired to bed.
At one stage during a particularly harrowing part of her treatment one night, Dr Henderson went to his hospital flat and returned with a small brandy for me. It proved an enormous restorative, and I felt far stronger and calmer to support my very sick child.
I know nothing of the new chief executive and I am sure his financial expertise is impeccable. But his accountant-based background could never hope to replace the services of a medical man, who was on-hand 24 hours a day to make professional medical judgments on behalf of the hospital.
