Cards spread a little sunshine

Award-winning cards have been displayed at Sha Tin Town Hall.

Winning designers in the Always Sunshine on the Face competition also received their prize at the event, organised by Breakthrough.

Comic artist Chao Yat cast his professional eye over the cards. The competition was part of the My Identity series, aimed at encouraging creativity among youngsters.

Four thousand entries from more than 100 secondary schools were received during one month, organisers said.

Dr Philemon Choi Yuen-wan, general secretary of Breakthrough, said: 'It is true that life is filled with ups and downs. Yet it is Breakthrough's conviction that with strong faith, youngsters will surely enjoy a bright future. Every cloud has a silver lining.

'No matter how depressing the moment sometimes is, when it is over, there is always sunshine on your face.

'This is precisely the theme of the contest.

'Besides developing youngsters' creative potential, we also wish teenagers to share with the public a positive outlook on life.

'In fact, the great response from contestants and the very high standard of all entries is a big encouragement to youth welfare workers and the public,' Dr Choi said.

Computers were installed at the town hall so that visitors could see the winning designs on the Internet.

Organisers also invited winners and disabled artists, as well as Breakthrough's own artists, to demonstrate their art and give away pictures.

More than 50,000 free postcards picturing the eight winning entries were distributed at the exhibition.
