Former students of Hong Kong Baptist University aim to raise $1.3 million for a new dormitory.
The money will cover one-quarter of the cost of the building, to be named Alumni Hall.
The president of the university's alumni association, Philip Kan Siu-lun, said all students deserved a chance to live on campus.
'I've often wished we had the experience of the full university life, learning to live with each other, establishing networks and relationships that would be very advantageous to our job-search, business contacts and mutual support in the working world,' Mr Kan said.
'Now, as alumni, we can help give students that edge during both their study days and career days to come.' The new building will be on land south of the Shaw Campus, off Renfrew Road.
The Alumni Hall is one of four planned, each designed to accommodate about 250 students.
Seventy-five per cent of the construction costs will be paid by the Government.
