VTC offering computer training for teaching staff

Computer training for teachers is among 70 short courses being offered by Vocational Training Council (VTC) technical institutes.

Applications are now open for the courses which are scheduled to start in November.

Eleven of the courses are being offered for the first time.

These include introductory and intermediate Information Technology for Secondary School Teachers.

The majority are suitable for working people who intend to update their job skills and knowledge.

Subjects include applied science, clothing technology, commercial and Chinese business studies, construction, design, electrical and electronic engineering, general studies, hotel-keeping and tourism.

New courses also include personal finance, a preparatory course for Pitman shorthand (New Era), mainland business, desktop publishing, basic English for engineering staff, and Southeast Asian cuisine.

Special-interest courses, such as ceramic art for beginners, bread-making and an introduction to Cantonese cuisine, also are on offer.

The courses range in length from 10 to 40 hours and will be taught mainly in Cantonese, with English for some technical, post-Form-Five instruction.

Application forms and guides can be obtained at the seven VTC technical institutes and district offices.

Closing date for applications is next Monday.

The seven technical institutes are at Morrison Hill, Kwai Chung, Kwun Tong, Haking Wong, Lee Wai Lee, Tuen Mun and Sha Tin.
