Closure unavoidable

I refer to the letter headlined, 'Pool closure is inexcusable' (South China Morning Post, December 3).

Wan Chai Training Pool is a purpose-built outdoor heated swimming pool for organised aquatic training.

It was closed from mid-October 1996 to install an ozone sterilisation system.

The pool was reopened on June 1, 1997, in time to meet the demand for training during the peak summer swimming season.

However, due to water leakage at the under-water window and the need for some other minor improvement works, the pool had to be closed again on December 1, for maintenance.

As regards the lane booking arrangement at Morrison Hill Swimming Pool, we fully understand the needs of individual swimmers and swimming associations and always try to strike a balance between the interests of the two parties. We will review the existing booking arrangements to make further improvements.

Should your readers have any further question, H. K. Yuen, District Amenities Officer (Wan Chai) on 2879 5613, will be happy to assist.
