New kerb lines for motorists

Kerb markings for no-stopping zones have been redesigned with painted vertical bars to indicate hours of restriction.

The Transport Department yesterday said a trial scheme would start over the weekend at selected sites in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kwai Fong and Causeway Bay.

The three markings will be painted next to existing single yellow lines to indicate the stopping restrictions.

A single bar-line represents a 7 am to 10 am and a 4 pm to 7 pm restriction, while double bar-lines indicate a 7 am to 7 pm ban.

Those painted with three bars indicate a daily ban from 7 am to midnight.

A department spokesman said the scheme would help motorists identify the various restricted areas more easily.

A review of the trial scheme will be carried out in three months.
