I am annoyed by the comments made by Xu Simin about the role of RTHK and I find it disturbing that Tung Chee-hwa failed to take a lead role in safeguarding freedom of speech in Hong Kong.
As your editorial of March 6 rightly points out, 'a public broadcaster cannot be required to put a favourable gloss on every government policy whatever its failings'.
Apparently, Mr Xu has a Communist concept of what a public broadcaster should be and this concept is totally against the values of the vast majority of Hong Kong people.
Apart from the appalling comments made by Mr Xu, Mr Tung once again failed to show his leadership by failing to refute Mr Xu's comments.
Instead, he dodged the issue and has even shown signs of contemplating Mr Xu's comments.
All Mr Tung needs to do is to stick to the existing policy. To do otherwise could be interpreted as steps to limit freedom of speech in Hong Kong.
